Homer drives several students (including Bart and Lisa) to school after the school bus crashed. Along the way, he listens to a classic rock radio station and is shocked to discover that the students hate it. After several more days of the kids hating his music, Homer goes to the music store and realizes that what he likes is no longer considered cool. Homer decides to take Bart and Lisa to the Hullabalooza music festival.
At Hullabalooza, Homer tries to act cool by wearing a Rastafarian hat, but all he does is humiliate himself and an angry crowd of Generation Xers mistake him for a narc. After being tossed out by the crowd, Homer angrily kicks a cannon, which shoots one of a person's inflatable pigs at his stomach. The festival head is impressed, and Homer is hired as a part of the festival's show.
Homer goes on tour with the festival, and finds himself living the high life. He also gets respect from American youth, including Bart. When the tour goes to Springfield, Homer's stomach begins to hurt and he is sent to a veterinarian. The veterinarian tells Homer that if he performs his act one more time, he will die.
In his act in Springfield, Homer gets in front of the cannonball, but at the last second he dodges the cannonball. As a result, he is released from the festival, and despite a warm sendoff from the rock stars, goes back to not being respected by his Bart and Lisa (lol).
My thoughts:
How many times have I seen it: 2 times
Storyline: The plot was OK. Homer gets a new job and it's full of guest stars. I liked the first act with Homer and the kids all in Homer's car. Again, nice to see some students together, something you don't see in the newer episodes that much. Back to the plot though, Homer realizes he's old and uncool is interesting, and the "Bart looking up to Homer" plot, are not fully noticed. Midway through the episode, the episode switches the story and the rest of the episode was weak.
Jokewise (is this a word?), there weren't much except a few in the festival, and in the opening sequence with Otto daydreaming. Typical Otto. But there were not enough jokes later on, as it was a bit boring and some scenes were pointless and could have been replaced with gags.
Overall, it's the worst episode of season 7.
My grade: C-
